You Can Make A Difference
Everyone has the capacity to give. We can all make a difference.
The Campaign for Cancer expansion will:
- Double the size of the Leavey Cancer Center.
- Provide the convenience of one location for all cancer services.
- Bring patients the most sophisticated image-guided radiation therapy.
- Create a cancer resource center, Intimate Image Salon and meditation area.
- Provide physicians with the best facility to conduct interdisciplinary treatment and promote clinical trials.
Because every cancer patient deserves a Cancer-Free Tomorrow...
"The new treatment and discussion areas will allow physicians and the entire staff to further our multidisciplinary approach to cancer care."
J. Gary Davidson, MD, Leavey Cancer Center Medical Director
The Cancer Center Expansion will provide enhanced accommodations, increased medical oncology therapies and greater access to support services.
- From the moment patients and their families enter the lobby, they will feel the difference. The expansion will continue the healing environment through an atrium, natural light, warm finishes, live plants, and a fountain, as well as access to the outdoors and space for meditation.
- The expanded Cancer Center will offer an open and flexible chemotherapy area that includes a choice of infusion suites or rooms all equipped with individual televisions, comfortable lounge chairs for patients, family seating and headphones. Five individual suites will increase to 10, and four rooms will increase to 10. Both suites and rooms will allow patients the option of privacy or interaction with an adjoining patient.
Cancer patients receive an average of six chemotherapy treatments lasting about four hours each. These treatments are typically draining for patients and their families. That's why it is critical to provide a comfortable environment where patients have control over their surroundings.
-
Integrative Medicine specialists work with patients and their cancer physicians to choose the most effective therapies that will not interfere with conventional therapy. The expansion allocates space specifically for the Integrative Medicine in the Cancer Center, eliminating the need for patients to leave the area for treatment, and adding to the one stop convenience.
- Many cancer patients experience temporary or permanent physical changes that can diminish their self-esteem. An Intimate Image Salon and the Look Good, Feel Better program will make wigs, hats and turbans, prosthetics, and skin care products available to patients, again without having to leave the Center.
-
Patient and Family Resource Library The resource library will allow patients, families and the public to borrow or purchase books, videos, DVD's and other materials, as well as internet access - all within the convenience of the Center.
- Located in the heart of the Cancer Center is the multipurpose room for cancer-related classes and physician meetings, as well as a space for patient or family meditation. In addition, the room will be outfitted with the latest audiovisual equipment to conduct case reviews and telemedicine communications.
- A tumor registry office will reside within the Center to maintain the vital statistics of incidence and survival rates of our Cancer patients.
