| Albertsons Grant Albertsons Companies Foundation Awards a $10,000 Grant for Therapeutic Massages for Cancer Patients |
Albertsons Companies Foundation has awarded Northridge Hospital Foundation a $10,000 grant which will provide 271 therapeutic massages for patients free of charge at our Leavey Cancer Center. The therapeutic massages are offered to cancer patients undergoing radiation and/or chemotherapy. An oncology massage is very specialized and different from traditional forms of massage. Oncology massage uses light touch and slow, steady movements, working with the central nervous system to help the body relax. The massages alleviate painful side effects, enhance patient comfort, and reduces anxiety. We contract with Massages 4 U who have staff certified in oncology massage and provide foot/leg, neck/shoulder, or hand massages.

| The County of Los Angeles Awards a $48,000 Grant for New Scopes |
The County of Los Angeles (through Lindsey Horvath’s Office, Supervisor of the 3rd Supervisory District), awarded Northridge Hospital Foundation a $48,000 grant for a new pediatric colonoscope and video gastroscope. Both scopes are very outdated and needed to be replaced with state of the art equipment. The colonoscope is used to visualize the large intestine and rectum in pediatric patients in order to treat polyps and take biopsies of tissues during a colonoscopy. This newer scope provides better angulation, wider views, high definition cameras and improved image quality. The video gastroscope is used to examine the upper gastrointestinal tract and take biopsies of tissues in pediatrics and adult patients. The newer scope has advanced maneuverability and can bend in four directions, exceptional insertion capability to help enhance patient comfort, and high image quality and clarity.
