2020 Steppin' Out Virtual Gala
Raises $270,000
On behalf of Northridge Hospital Foundation’s Board of Directors and as this year’s Chair of the Steppin’ Out Steering Committee, we want to express our gratitude for everyone’s support to this year’s Steppin’ Out Gala that was streamed on Saturday, October 10, 2020 from the Four Seasons Hotel in Westlake Village.
Through the support of our hospital administration, staff, physicians, Board Members, medical groups, numerous sponsors, donors and volunteers we had an exciting virtual event. There were 364 live streams of the event and raised $270,000 benefiting our Medical Center’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Proceeds will ensure patients have a plan of care for COVID-19, minimize staff exposures to the virus, and reduce the spread.
Steppin’ Out featured a special appearance by gifted singer, songwriter and Country music entertainer, Annie Bosko, singing her hit song, Fighter!
This year’s honoree of the “Grace Leland Physician Appreciation” award went to Gastroenterologist, Dr. Gustavo Machicado. Throughout his distinguished 46 year career at Northridge Hospital, Dr. Machicado has participated in clinical research studies, published multiple papers in peer reviewed journals, and presented his expertise on Gastroenterology throughout the world.
The event also included our very own PCA, Keerati Yuvaves, recounting his story of survival and beating COVID – 19.
We thank our attendees, and all those who made Steppin’ Out a success.

Annie Bosko
Annie Bosko has earned well-deserved recognition in the music industry as a gifted singer, songwriter and performer. Annie has entertained audiences of 300,000 people, played the Grand Ole Opry, received a standing ovation at Ryman Auditorium and has toured the country opening for acts such as Dierks Bentley, Blake Shelton, Martina McBride, Wynona Judd, Big & Rich, Josh Turner, Pat Benatar and more. She has shared the stage and performed with Adele, Darius Rucker, Andrea Bocelli, Josh Groban and many others. Rolling Stone magazine praised her as the #2 new country artist to watch, describing her as the ”California girl next door with the country-pop delivery of Sheryl Crowe.” |

Grace Leland Physician Appreciation
The Grace Leland Physician Appreciation Award was established in 2014 to honor an attending physician at Northridge Hospital Medical Center for his/her excellence in their field, and for their commitment to saving lives, and contributions to not only Northridge Hospital, but to the greater community.
Today we congratulate you Dr. Gustavo Machicado for your excellence in Gastroenterology. Thank you for all that you do for our patients at Northridge Hospital Medical Center as well as the San Fernando Valley community.

Gustavo Machicado, MD, FACP, FACG, MASGE
Born in La Paz, Bolivia, Dr. Gustavo Machicado migrated with his family to the United States in the 1960’s at the age of 13.
After finishing High School in the U.S., he attended the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he studied microbiology and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1970. Admittedly, the “best years of my life,” Dr. Machicado selected the Medical School at the University of California, San Francisco, and graduated with his Medical Degree in 1974. Post-graduate education in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology were accomplished at V.A. Wadsworth/UCLA combined training program and completed in 1979. This was followed with the opening of his private practice becoming a member of the Northridge Hospital Medical Staff where he remains today.

Kirk Yuvaves
This year at Steppin’ Out our Grateful Patient was our own: Keerati “Kirk” Yuvaves, a 23-year employee who worked as a unit secretary on Dignity Health - Northridge Hospital’s COVID-19 unit.
“I had no symptoms,” Kirk recalls of that spring day. “No cough, no fever—then, it just hit me. I couldn’t breathe.”
“When I first saw him, I knew he wasn’t going to do well,” says Hamid R. Nasseri, DO. “No one wanted to lose Kirk.”
“Thanks to the team’s focus and perseverance, Kirk finally came around,” remembers Dr. Nasseri.
“It was tense, but at that moment, we all breathed a sigh of relief.”
Kirk’s mother and wife were relieved as well when he was cleared to go home after his 70-day hospitalization. At home, Kirk continues to regain strength. “Thanks to the great doctors and nursing staff, I’ll be back working at Northridge Hospital—the place that saved my life.” - says Kirk.
