"Helping Hands Holiday Jam" Event for Children

You Should Have Seen Their Smiling Faces

The holidays arrived a couple of weeks early!  In the spirit of Hello humankindness, Santa arrived just in time for the 16th Annual “Helping Hands Holiday Jam” on Friday, December 9th.  He was welcomed by more than 325 children between the ages of seven and ten from four local Title 1 Elementary Schools in our area. Despite the cold morning, the kids all took part in the carnival atmosphere and had a terrific day.

Hit the Floor performed their "street dance act” and entertained the children with their amazing dance moves and Mike Rangel dazzled the crowd with his magic act.  Each child was treated to lunch, presents from Santa and an individual photo with him.  Hair painting, as well as face painting, seemed to be the two most popular activities.  The children also participated in carnival games, coloring, arts and crafts and video games in a mobile gaming truck!  For most, this may be the only Christmas they have this holiday season.  Teachers say the children look forward to this day from the first day of school.  Rumor around school, is that once you reach 2nd grade you get to go to this “Holiday Celebration at Northridge Hospital”.

We extend a huge “Thank You" to L.A. City Councilmembers Bob Blumenfeld, District 3; Nury Martinez, District 6; Mitch Englander, District 1; the Northridge Hospital Foundation, Northridge Hospital and NHMC Auxiliary, Premier America Credit Union; Foundation Board Members Tony & Vickie Torres and Frank & Valerie Kohler; Shaun & Bill Kane, Marcy Wong, the Harold & Carole Pump Foundation, and Captain Sanchez from Fire Station 73 for their help in underwriting this great event!  A special "Thank You” also goes out to all of the volunteers from the Kiwanis Club of Northridge, Assistance League, CSUN students, Bank of America, Premier Credit Union, Planet Hope, Kristine Lazar, KCBS 2 News, Pia Jacinto and Christal Pichon from food service, Mike Hadrych, the hospital and other community members who helped throughout the day!
