Ways To Give

Have you thought about making a significant philanthropic gift that can save lives and give you something in return? Do you want to make a contribution without using your current assets?

Planning a gift carefully can be as important to you as the gift is to us. Tax considerations are seldom the primary motive in philanthropy. However, tax consequences often play a role in determining how your gift should be made and the level of your gift.

You can accomplish these goals by making a deferred gift in support of Northridge Hospital Medical Center. In addition to creating long-term health care benefits for your community, you may also achieve substantial tax benefits.

We are happy to answer any questions you might have in this regard. In addition, we encourage you to consult your own legal and financial advisors to receive professional advice concerning various tax and other financial considerations. Options for giving include cash, securities, real estate, and/or matching gifts from your employer.

Grateful Patient Program

Caregivers play an increasingly important role in patient fundraising, as gifts are often made in honor of physicians, nurses and other patient care staff. Patients or their families can make a gift to Northridge Hospital Foundation’s Grateful Patient Program as a way of saying “thank you” to the people who were there when they needed them the most -- their doctors, nurses, therapists, or any member of the healthcare team that has provided exceptional care.

A cash gift by check is the most common method of making a charitable contribution even though a comparison with other methods shows this is not necessarily the most cost-effective option. A cash gift gives you income tax savings and gives immediate financial support.

Donate Online

You can make your charitable donations online with your credit card. This is a secure website so you do not have to worry about using your credit card number online. Simply open this link - Online Donation or press the Donate Now button located on the top of the page.

Once you enter the registration information, you will proceed to another page where you can make an online designation of your gift. You can designate to any specific hospital department listed, such as Cancer, Center for Assault Treatment Services, or CardioVascular.

You can also honor a special physician or employee to say thank you for the care you or a loved one received while at the hospital. Many people choose a memorial gift which honors the life of a family member or friend. If you would like to make a donation, but are not sure who or what to designate, you can select the area of greatest need at the hospital.

Memorial or Tribute Gifts

Our Tribute and Memorial Program provides you with the opportunity to give a gift of lasting value. Whether it is an inscription on a donor wall or a grand public monument.

A Memorial Gift honors the life of a family member or beloved friend year round. Loved ones can also contribute together to establish a special fund in person's memory to be used for a specific need.A tribute gift may be made in celebration of a birthday, wedding anniversaries, or other special one-time occasions.

A Tibute Gift can be made as a way of thanking a special nurse or physician for the care received. When you send us a charitable gift as a memorial or tribute, the Foundation will send a card to the person or family you designate - notifying them of your thoughtful contribution. The amount you give is always confidential.

For your convenience you can use the green button at the top of the page to donate online. If you wish to fax or mail in your donation simply  print out the Memorial/Tribute Donation form.

Mailing in Your Donation

To mail your gift simply print out our Standard Donation Form and mail to Northridge Hospital Foundation, 18300 Roscoe Blvd., Northridge, CA 91328.

Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA)

It is said that in the act of giving we receive more than we thought imaginable. The charitable gift annuity (CGA) is a planning tool that recognizes that the rewards of giving begin with the desire to make a gift.

You can make a gift to your favorite charity, and still receive an income for yourself or others. To create a CGA, a donor transfers an asset (cash, stock, or other assets) to charity.

Most gift annuity donors are retired, want to increase their cash flow, seek the security of guaranteed income, and would like to save taxes. A charitable gift annuity could be right for people in any of the following circumstances:

  • The interest rates on their CDs and other fixed-income investments have declined, and they would like to increase their cash flow.
  • They own appreciated stock or mutual fund shares and have considered selling some of the shares and reinvesting the proceeds to generate more income, but they have hesitated because they don't want to pay tax on the capital gain.
  • They would like to count on fixed payments, which are unaffected by interest rates and stock prices and which they cannot outlive.
  • They want to assure continuation of payments to a surviving spouse without the delay of probate proceedings.
  • They would like to provide financial assistance to an elderly parent, a sibling, or other person in a tax-advantaged manner.

Matching Gifts

Many employers have matching gift programs that will match your gift to Northridge Hospital. Please check with your employer for the options they offer.

Gift of Marketable Securities

This is the second most frequently used asset for current charitable giving. Marketable securities that have appreciated in value and held for over one year. This gift to us produces two tax savings - a deduction for the current value, and avoidance of the capital gains tax.

Real Estate Gifts

An outright gift of undeveloped land or developed property is generally fully deductible for its current fair market value. The property is frequently worth much more than the original cost of land or the depreciated value of structures; the gift nevertheless completely avoids capital gains tax that would be payable were the property to be sold. As with appreciated securities, the two tax savings combine to reduce the net cost of the gift to the donor.
